Call to Artists

If things continue as they are, this will affect Pagans as well. This is an opportunity for artists all over the world, not just Roma artists.

Dear Friends Artists,

After the Second World War Europe discovered in its joint economical interests the
motifs and energy to overcome war, abuse of power and genocide. This is how the
European Union was born. But a worldwide crisis is jeopardizing an unique
experiment. Again there is a demand for scapegoats and again Roma are much
sought-after, followed again by Jews, homosexuals, blacks and
immigrants.

Apparently mankind lacks the creativity to spot causes and effects and find the real way out.
Blaming the neighbours is an irrational-minded reflex that over and over again
destroyed civilizations based on fundamental rights.

The word "again" is frustrating. Why do we fall into the same old errors? Why don't we
recognize harmful patterns and do we repeat ourselves?

Artists are individuals and all of them differ a lot in their metier. But they have one
thing in common: being creators they don't want to repeat themselves. Each
artistic expression is a new-born creation, fresh, alert and
critical.

Therefore artists are more capable than others to see what is happening. If they, painters,
writers, poets, filmmakers, photographers, stage-people and musicians, unite,
they may give a mighty wake-up call.

And art could be linked to art: texts to images, images and films to music. Our joint
art might be interesting for media and education projects. Young people should
know that there are alternatives for xenophobia, segregation and
hatred.

Within 5 weeks, starting in July, Roma and non-Roma artists from 9 countries have decided
to join and their number is growing. All those who - in principle - are
interested to join the movement, are invited to react. As soon as there are
applicants from most EU member states, a list of names will be spread. Nothing
however will happen without a personal consent.
