Energy work is not my strong point. In fact, I tend to look at the excercises at the end of each lesson of the First Degree program with a small amount of trepidation.
Even though I've been involved in Wicca as a solitary for years, I've never really learned to meditate or direct energy. Taking the First Degree course is the first time I've been really challenged to learn to do this. I didn't have much luck. So I decided the smart thing for me to do was to go back a step or two and start more slowly.
On the advice of a WitchSchool friend, I decided to try some meditation. She pointed me to this lovely site:
Meditation Oasis. I've set the link to send you to their podcast page. The podcasts are short and free to download. (You should feel free, however, to check out the whole site. It's a great resource.) Of special interest is the Chakra Meditation, which I high recommend if you, like me, have trouble with energy work. In my opinon, this is a great place to start. The nice thing about the meditation is that you aren't expected to do anything with your chakras yet; it just helps you focus on where they are in the body and what they feel like when you direct your attention on them.
I started listening to this podcast on my MP3 player in the morning before I begin my day a few weeks ago. I've been doing it regularly ever since, and it's amazing to me how much more energy I have... even when I'm not entirely sure I didn't just micro-nap through the last half of the meditation. I'm hoping that after some practice, I'll be able to locate my chakras without the guided meditaton and then I'll be ready to start at the beginning of the lessons again and work though the excercises with better success.
