The weekend was packed solid with activities and flew by rather quickly. Friday night I performed a solitary ritual for the holiday. My son was in bed and my husband was working late. It was the one time that I knew I would have to myself.
I had a long talk the weekend before with a friend of my concerning Tarot. I hadn’t picked up my cards in a while. I have four decks, but usually only use the one. Since my conversation had been concerning how we relate to different decks, I decided to feel out my decks to see how each one feels. I ran out of alone time so I only got to try two of the desks so far.
Saturday morning was spent cleaning the house. We’ve been so busy on the weekends; it’s been difficult finding time to do so. By lunchtime, the house was clean and we had caught up on laundry. We went out and purchased a couple of Halloween themed books for Alex with a gift certificate he had won a few weeks ago. We also treated ourselves to LEGO Rock Band.
Most of the afternoon was spent relaxing as a family and waiting for my brother and his girlfriend to come over for dinner.
Sunday started early with 9:00am UUCD service. Sunday school held a Halloween party. Service was about gifts you get from the community and gifts that you give to the community. It involved talking in small groups about the gifts we have gotten from being a part of UUCD. Being so new, I pretty much ended up talking to a couple of strangers. It was a good growing experience as I really had to get out of my comfort zone and share.
At the end of service the kids came in and put on a costume parade. My boy was at the front; his entire face was painted red, with a little green on top. He was holding out a lollipop for all to see. I think he was painted to be an apple. According to the teacher, he insisted on having his entire face painted.
We went home briefly, and then headed out to early bowling. Alex was pretty much on a sugar high and I barely got him to eat a real lunch. Personally, I did alright. As a team, we did poorly. It’s still early in the league, about a quarter of the way through.
I decided to take Alex to the mall for some early trick-or-treating. At 4:30pm, most stores were out of candy. He preferred playing in the play area anyhow. We made it to his Aunt’s house by 6:00pm and we were on the road to trick-or-treat by 7:00pm. We made it to about 6-8 houses before Alex decided that he was done. Of course, I knew it would happen. I carried him back to the house as he snuggled against me. Half way home I stopped and had him ride on my back. He was quite excited about his nighttime adventure of trick-or-treating.
We had to pick up my husband from work at 8:00pm. Then we went straight home. We tried feeding Alex a little dinner just so he could have some real food in his stomach before bedtime. As my mother predicted, there was a breakdown and tears before the night was over. He got over the tears quickly and gave little protest over going to bed.
