Today the rain is pouring down on us here in Hillsboro. We are surounded by the smell of wet pavement and the sound of rain colliding with our rooves. This is a calming sound that i have become used to, And i don't know what i would do if it wasn't there. Just like the sound of crickets and frogs in the summer singing to their own tune. Many people complain about harsh weather and how much trouble and how many problems it causes. But if you sit down and really think about it, it is just the sound of our planet communicating with us and telling us how to be closer to her. We as wiccan's should be able to understand that and be able to move past the fact that weather is a natural ocuring force and should be celebrated instead of criticized. Everybody including non-wiccan's should go out into the harshest of conditions and test your limits. I see this as our way of communicating with mother earth and thanking her for all the things she puts up with from the human race.

As wiccans we are here to protect our planet and understand all the deeper meanings of life, or at least thats what we strive for. Even the smallest parts of the planet have a meaning no matter how small we should always be around to help and protect our planet. Just because we can't see certain things and feel certain things dosent mean they don't exsist. We are here to help our planet survive and inhabit all of us. She helps us by watering our crops, bringing the beautiful seasons to us and most importantly brining life to new things such as baby animals and new foliage. Who says we can't return the favor and help her by acknowledging her presence in our lives?

yes, even though i havent showered in the rain or camped in snow. i love to get out into nature. i even love to just stand in the rain for the fun of it. standing outside and listening to the sounds of nature like birds chirping early in the morning or hearing the wind blow in the trees.theses are all things every wiccan should experience at some point in their life.

Awesome evinthear!

I agree with you. I am not someone who generally says... "man, i WANT to go out in the bitter cold of winter". As many others... I prefer to spend my time outdoors in "good weather". But for the sake of my craft and the betterment of my connectedness I pull on my boots and coat and try to go out anyways. I have learned that my daughter LOVES snow and that even when i am grumpy about going out, every time i do i am glad i did. The natural world is SO beautiful. The air in winter here is crisp and clean and the snow softly blankets the landscape. The wildlife is nestled into the valleys, and the scent of pine is the strongest in the whole year. As spring comes i know that the rain will bring that fresh green grass that i begin to long for in winter, and the summer will once again fill the meadows with wildflowers. The only reason i know this to be true, is because each year i drag myself out of my house into the outdoors, when it is sunny, rainy, windy, or cold... each with its merits. Each time i do i am sure to return with a smile!

I think it is the initial walking outside that challenges wiccans. Many of us are raised with preconceived ideas of what weather is "good" and "bad". We must force ourselves to get out and experience it. I think anyone who has showered in the rain, camped in the snow, or laid in a flowery meadow can attest to the power of nature.
