Just in case you've been wondering.... I went to a family reunion in Island Park, Idaho and then to Yellowstone. Hubby couldn't go because he was on the road for work (which has changed, btw, more later). On the way home we stopped in Deer Lodge to take a tour of the old Montana state prison & check out the antique cars. My knees went weak over some of those Chargers & Mustangs. Yes, I'm a car junkie. It was only a week, but it took me almost a week to get ready and a week to recover. We did so much during that week but it was soooo much fun!
My cousin who put the reunion together had us doing a "family quest" where we had to go to different places and do different things to get tokens that were traded in for puzzle pieces. We went rafting down the river, drove up Sawtelle Peak (10,500 feet at the top), saw Cave Falls, had a family talent show and family auction where my 4 year old bought 3 boxes of Rice Krispie Treats for $12 (54 in a box!). I honestly don't think I could have planned a better time for us, at least not in that area.
Yellowstone was interesting. I've never been there before. We spent 2 days there and while we didn't see as much wildlife as we hoped, we did see some absolutely beautiful country.
The prison at Deer Lodge was spooky in some places but really interesting in others. I used it as a teaching tool for the kids. But I'm still drooling over some of those cars!
