Group of the Day: Women’s Studies
For our community, many women are exposed for the first time to the idea of self-empowerment, and a right to choose their own thoughts about history, religion, in everything they do. This group by Kimberly Ann Ferguson is a great starting point.
Here is how the Woman Studies describe themselves: A place where women or men come and communicate either about the lives from the female experience or to get advice from female issues. Goddess Inspired!

Earth as Our Home
written by Ron Sorensen

Earth is our home, our only home. Going green isn’t a matter of choice but a matter of necessity. Humans have lived here a short time in comparison to the animal populations that have thrived and prospered on our mother planet. We survive now because we are the dominant creatures presently inhabiting earth. As this planet has experienced many catastrophes’ that have in times past removed many animal species, it's an ever-changing world. And because of some of the changes, we are here, now, instead of being chased around by dinosaurs.
Some disasters are inevitable but some are not. Some can be avoided by logic and caring about the world we live on. Energy is everywhere, and humans are always in search of it. Building power plants that generate huge amounts of toxic waste into our atmosphere. Drilling for prehistorical waste to power our vehicles. We are slaves to our conveniences, but living is inherently dependent on these sources. The human world cannot survive without power sources. So the question that should be asked everywhere, is "what can we do to help?"
Change is needed for us to survive and for our future generations to survive. Change in the way we generate our power, and products to reduce our consumption of power. One person cannot have an impact on earth to stop what is happening, it has to be a multitude of caring individuals across the face of our earth. Solar power and wind power are now available to anyone who wants it bad enough. The expense of it is sometimes overpowering but the benefits are earth saving. Global warming isnt just a phrase, its a warning to all humans that something has to be done, and done now. Climate controls how we live and survive in our various areas. When the climate changes, we have to adapt to those changes and sometimes we don't adapt well enough, and face tragedy or extermination. Global warming is changing the force of the seasons (more snow and cold, and more heat and drought). The oceans will rise to catastrophic heights and many of us will know the force of water on our habitations. Our present lives may not see the full effect of this, but our families to come will. They will inherit the problems that we created by not acting on what we know about power generation. Our water is being polluted by the coal industry in its quest for more fuel to feed its power generators. Not only is the mining of coal polluting our waters but the burning is also a water pollution source. The generations of our families that will inherit our planet will have to face our failure to protect our earth.

"ONE SMALL STEP FOR PLANET EARTH, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR GREEN EARTH."
"A DREAM COME TRUE"
I started working on getting solar panels in Feb. 09 and finally had them finished in Sept. 09. First I had to get financing. I mortgaged my house and now owe more than when I bought it, but got a smaller interest rate and now pay less on my house payments. The power company cancelled its rebates until June so I had to wait. In June, after researching the available companies I started my project. Solar panels and improvements to my house. I got more attic insulation and new and better ductwork. I also had my A/C serviced. I live in Texas and air conditioning is very important here because of the heat. Our summer this year has set records for heat and drought. The rebates helped in the financing and my taxes should result in more money saved this next year. It was an expensive project but money well spent in the quest for energy saved. The sun can supply abundant energy for us to use in our need for power. I also installed new energy saver light bulbs and water saver toilets (which the water company here gave me for free). In my search for personal green earth, I have done what earth needs to have done, and hopefully have set an example for others to follow. My neighbors are all asking about my solar panels so maybe it will start them thinking about it themselves. One "green" house cannot save our planet, but millions of them could.
