The Promise of a Pagan Network

In 2000, I was enraptured by a vision of a Pagan Community in which part of its structure would be built on the Internet. This concept of a connected world thrilled me, and from this vision emerged my lifework, my ministry, and my desire to reach out. In 2012, the vision has taken hold and now is a network that reaches across 198 countries and capable of communicating with hundreds of thousands of people. It is primarily based on education and communication, and allows members to discover some of the answers they are hungry for.

In order to accomplish this, we offered a basic public education program, freely and open to the public. It was the beginning of a way for people to study Paganism and Wicca in the comfort and protection of their homes, without worry of persecution. Further the education was available whenever you wanted and allowed it to be fit into your schedule. This basic education open clergy status to the largest number of people, far more than any Pagan group ever offered before. This allowed this network to grow and expand over the last decade. This was the beginning of the promise of a Pagan Network.

Now in 2012 the vision that so caught me up is still emerging. We have a global network that does not just include just our network, but now has thousands of sites and services. The Internet of 2012 is all about networking, and creating connections. Within this context a Pagan Network has become a reality and is so large that few people can envision how large it has become. With this network we have seen laws changed, new groups formed, and so many accomplishments as this Pagan Network formed and grew.

For me, the network is in its infancy, and has not yet accomplished the major changes that are needed. My belief is that we can see a network of 8-10 million people in the United States, and additional 3-5 million people in countries outside the USA. This can happen very quickly, and based on the unique promise offered by the Internet. What will help create this network will be three important factors, the desire for education, the need for information and news, and mobilizing action towards community goals. We can see this expand at incredible rates over the next decade, and believe we can see this amazing network as soon as 2020.

In this change emerging, I foresee a this network capable of creating a Social Education system that helps generate smart and energetic people that can offer leadership, invention, artistic vision, cultural experimentation, and community development to the network. Further, I see a network of citizen reporters and information gatherers that allow rapid communication on a individual to a global basis, helping assure that we are able to act when needed. The greatest promise of bring all this human talent into direct communication, sharing knowledge and information, is the ability to solve problems, utilize even meager resources effectively, and to improve the quality of life for all members of this Pagan Network. As we look forward to 2012, this emerging network continues to open up for us all.
