Those who remain

I have been on a journey all my life to reach THIS point and THIS place. I have seen desperation and dispair, joy and victory, from one extreme to the other. I have seen friends come and go, each for reasons valid to themselves.. and yet I remain.

What I describe is life, the ups and downs and the people we meet along the way. Sometimes it is easy to be negative about life when circumstance seems to gather the worst together all at once. Sometimes it is hard just to get up out of bed and face the day... yet I do so.

Why?

Because the worst times do end, the night of fear passes, the dispair doesn't last, and in the end I remain. No matter how tough life gets, the sunrise still comes. No matter how sure I am that nothing is worthwhile something good inevitably grows from the experience. It seems I am an optimist who sees hope in strange places... and thus I remain.

I remain because I am glad of every moment of this life, even the painful and stressful times, and believe that balance is possible in my own life. I remain because I believe in the ultimate purpose of life: to live, experience, learn, actively be a part of the energy exchange between all life. For in this I am one of those who remain...

it is a song in the silence
and quiet in the storm
it is love for the loveless
and joy for the joyless
it is contentment in misery
and sadness in the midst of joy
it is all our memories and all our futures
and it is now
