The streets are unusually quiet for this time of the year. Tourists are busy bustling from shop to shop, admiring the best goods saved all year long by Salem’s merchants for this one month. Children are laughing and playing as their parents drag them around for a change. But there is something missing.

Cries for brains, and hair raising moans ‘n groans are absent from the chill night air. Salem looks on however, as what would have been the 2nd annual Retro Zombie Ball, hosted by the Festival of the Dead, becomes nothing more than a quickly fading memory for some, erasing completely the flesh rotting smiles of others. The event appears to have been cancelled on a short notice merely days before its scheduled time, another victim of our recession economy driven by Zombie Banks and undead politicians trying to keep the moribund economy moving. Frustration will most certainly be found in last year’s zombies and zombie survivors alike.

Will Salem see the Retro Zombie Ball surface again? Next year has yet to present itself, but nothing save witch history is ever concrete in Salem. Despite the fact that flesh won’t be eaten this year, Salem’s tourists will still have quite a few things to sink their teeth into, including but not limited to the Vampire Masquerade Ball later this month.
